Looking to transfer for Spring 2016 - Suggestions

Hello all!

I’m currently at University of Michigan, fall semester sophomore year, chemical engineering major, and am looking to transfer for next semester. I almost transferred last fall because I was unsure about my fit and place on campus but decided to stick it out. Now, still don’t love it here, definitely looking to leave next semester and am looking for some suggestion as to where to go.

Here are some requirements:
*Northeast - preferably LI, upstate NY, Connecticut, NJ, eastern Penn. I’m from LI and one of my biggest issues with Michigan is that I don’t have the flexibility to visit my family when I want. I’m hoping for somewhere within the tri-state area and within a 1-2 hour radius of western LI.
*Chemical engineering OR electrical engineering - I’m currently majoring in chemical engineering and would like to stick with that but I’d also be willing to major in EE with a chemistry/bio/life sciences concentration in order to open up to more possibilities.
*Academic reputability comparable to UMich - I’m not looking to leave UMich because of the academic; in fact, so far I really have had a bad experience with any of my classes. UMich is a pretty academically prestigious school and I’d look to go somewhere with a reputation at least somewhat comparable to that

Here are some of my credentials:
*3.57 GPA
*Taken through calc 3 (currently taking calc 4), organic chemistry 1 & 2, and physics 1(currently taking physics 2) so after this semester I’m essentially finished with all my engineering pre-reqs.
*Reserach experience
*Not a ton of extracurriculars/leadership experience - like I said I’ve had a lot of trouble feeling like I don’t fit in here so I haven’t found it easy getting involved around campus

Last note - I understand SUNY Stonybrook fits most of these requirements, but I haven’t heard great stories from students going there and I really don’t think it will be any better of a fit for me than Michigan. I’d probably be willing to go there as a last resort, but I’m really looking for some other places that will fit me better and give me the college education I desire.

Thanks so much!

Where did you apply the first time around, and where were you admitted? What did you like about those places?
What is your budget like?
What are you looking for other than just being closer to home?
