I am currently a freshman at St Andrews in Scotland. I am originally from Greece but went to UK for my undergrad studies.
I didn’t apply to Yale back then mostly because of lack of information but I recently have felt myself getting more and more dissatisfied with the lack of certain opportunities which I believe crucial for my career goals and I am
considering applying for transfer as a junior next year.
I know transferring to Yale is like winning the lottery , but I am willing to give it a shot . I’ll give you a brief overwiev of my CV just so you can tell me what you think.
I have an equivalent of a 3.9/4.0 GPA , I am currently studying Maths and Economics.
I am part of various societies - all related to finance.
I have been accepted into spring internships at Goldman Sachs First Year Program , JP Morgan Winning Women Program , Deutsche Bank.
I am working to secure my summer internships for next summer and interning at the Bank of England this summer.
I took a gap year to dedicate myself to the creation of two online businesses - an international online news aggregator and a consulting group.
I speak three languages - Greek, English and German ( C1 certified ), working to learn French.
I plan to go back to UK wheter admitted to work at the BoE.
Could you give me an honest ( constructive ) opinion of my CV ?
Many Thanks
Your GPA and CV sound wonderful and would seem to be what Yale is looking for. However, I imagine that most transfer applicant resumes offer different, but just as distinctive credentials. The only way you’re going to know for sure is to apply. Keep in mind though that successful transfer applicants to Yale will have written a powerful essay that details what Yale can offer them that they cannot find at their current school: http://admissions.yale.edu/transfer
Thanks for your reply @gibby , I read the link you posted and I found it very useful. My fear is that I may not be able to successfully ‘‘introduce’’ myself to the admission committee as UK and American applications are considerably different. Having never used the Common App I wonder , is there a way I can talk about my extracurricular activities without just listing them? I fear that just listing a series of internships isn’t going to help me much against an amazing pool of applicants
You gotta have faith in the Admissions Office, and realize they they receive hundreds of applications from the UK, and understand UK applicants and the schools they attend! For example, although Yale does not list the number of students from the UK attending the school, Harvard does and there are currently 57 students from the UK attending Harvard. Yale probably has about the same number of students attending from the UK, so relax. You should go on-line now and explore the Common Application: https://www.commonapp.org/Login and see it’s limitations with regards to listing EC’s.
