I am so disappointed. Only three kids signed up to take Calc and there is a HUGE shortage of math teachers this year so it looks like it will be a virtual class. Has anyone done calculus online and if so, how did it go?
S25 has gone through the athletic preread process at several schools so I assume he will have to resubmit his new class schedule if he does replace virtual calculus with a different class. Anyone know if this will be held against him?
Any option to take calc through dual enrollment at a local community college? Might be better than taking it online, while still keeping a competitive senior year schedule.
I have no insight for you, just a little empathy: D25’s upcoming calc class is scheduled to only have her and another in it and I fear they will do something similar to your school’s solution.
Although, while different than math, d25 did take AP bio through jhu’s cty program this past year and it was not a terrible experience (I think she would say that she would have preferred an in person experience though).
Well some of my kids took calculus in HS virtually thanks to COVID, AB and BC. A lot of college students take calculus online at CC over the summer, my daughter just took calc 3 last summer at a CC an hour away asynchronously. Some of my other kids did the same
I understand your disappointment. My child took an online calculus class last year, and while it was challenging, they managed well with a lot of self-discipline and good time management. Regarding the athletic preread, it’s definitely a good idea to update the schools with any changes in the schedule. From our experience, as long as the replacement class is rigorous and relevant, it shouldn’t be held against him.
