Loomis!

My daughter just came back from visiting Loomis and LOVED! IT! Vaulted right to the top of her list. Now she wants to see what she can do to help her chances. Her scores are good enough, she’s got good grades, good ECs (dance, soccer, music), connected well to the interviewer - but wants to help herself stand out. Any advice? Do videos, or extra recommendations like from a coach or dance teacher, really help?

Those things might help, but I can think of another quality: community service, widely construed. If you looked into the story of the school’s founding, it has always had a “pay it forward” mentality; they want kids who are motivated to make the world a better place–in tangible ways–through their presence.

So in terms of the essays, both parent and applicant, I’d encourage you and DC to speak about ways how DC has not just excelled individually, but has made contributions to your school, wider family, or community.

Good luck!

Pelican, the applications and essays are already in (they were due Jan 15) so now it’s just a question of what, if any, extras might help?

Just wanted to share that the fashion designer who designed Michelle Obama’s inaugural ball dresses (both inaugurations) is a graduate of Loomis '01. Just a piece of Loomis history.

Loomis has a VERY good dance program and you note that is one of your Ds interests, maybe send a performance DVD and she could contact the dance instructor about her interest, kind of like sports recruiting?

Sorry, the designer’s name is Jason Wu.

2prepmom, she met with the instructor and we’re thinking of sending a video. Wondering if it makes a difference?

Validation of a performing artist’s skills and artistry is always good, imo. At worst it would be neutral.
