LOOTING...would you do it after a hurricane?

“I find it sort of funny that in recent news articles and pictures online, the word “loot” accompanies pictures of black people taking goods, but the word “find” accompanies pictures of white people taking goods. Someone had pointed this out to me the other day. I just hope the media doesn’t resolve to turning the looting problem into a race problem.”

-The white people on the news that they showed were getting bottled water and food. The blacks which looked like 99% of the whole scene were taking TVs, jewels, and even looting guns from gun shops. So don’t confuse yourself, they’re looting every damn thing and we know whos doing it.
-So now people are going to come back to their stores and have absolutely NOTHING. Looters should be shot onsite. The state of Mississippi already stated that they will not tolerate any looting and I don’t know why New Orleans is letting the looting happen. They even have police officers (who happen to be black) looting.

I think I’ve said this before Tpeck, but the National Guard, if deployed to New Orleans, do have a right to shoot looters on sight.

I hope all the looters get shot. Shoot! Shoot! say the guns. Ow! Ow! go the looters.

yeah from a rich kid living in CT.

noob

Well New Orleans is mostly black, so I can see why they would show more black people looting. But the media never shows two sides of the story anyways. Come on, white people “find” but black people “loot”? Racist media…

I personally feel blacks are being exploited as “savages”. New Orleans has some of the POOREST blacks in the area. They barely had anything before, and now they have nothing. I’m not trying to excuse “looting” materialistic things because stealing a big screen TV doesn’t make sense when you can’t use it, but dire situations can bring out the best and worse in you. I know if I was them, I’d do everything in my power to survive.

Did y’all hear about the guy who shot his sister for a bag of ice? That was crazy…Anyways I’ll be praying for New Orleans and the other places who went through the disaster. God bless.

I guess my point is that the media shouldn’t make it seem like only black people are looting. We only get to see what the media wants us to and I’m sure if the hurricane hit an area with a high white population (such as my hometown), you’d see videos of white people looting stores.

But it is true that the black looters will do nothing but further damage the image of all blacks in this country. So many bad stereotypes exist about us already and black looters, who were probably not model citizens before the hurricane, will only make matters worse and will cause others to withhold aid for fear of being harmed and exploited. It’s like when someone decided to shoot at the rescue vehicles evacuating patients from a hospital. The person doing the shooting is probably just bitter about his or her situation and feels that no one else should have the benefit of being rescued if they are being given a helping hand. The end result is that the military will stop trying to save people in areas where people are shooting at them. In war-time the military will send a chopper full of soldiers armed to teeth to rescue others in the field but I have my doubts about whether or not the military will show the same initiative when it comes to rescuing civilian patients from a hospital. They said it was too dangerous to continue the evacuation. Too dangerous for who…the soldiers or the civilians? I shouldn’t comment too much on this issue because I don’t know if it was the military’s or the hospital’s decision to postpone the evac. Doctors and patients may not want to risk being shot at, but soldiers should be willing to take the chance. They are getting shot at everyday in Iraq. It shouldn’t make a difference over here in America.

I believe that in times of crisis and despair people should act with dignity and look out for one another. But that only exists in fairy tales. When put in a hard spot, many of us will act in our own self-interest and saving other people will be the furthest thing from own minds. On one hand you have the looters who are stealing TVs and shooting people. And on the other, you have the people like the hotel guests with multiple cars who filled them up with luggage and refused to take other people with them (this was on the news earlier today). These people didn’t steel a worthless TV….they selfishly held onto replaceable luggage and decided to leave others behind. Should these people be shot like looters?

I’d probably get guns to protect myself… and then go loot casinos, banks, jewlery stores, and other high priced places

Icarus,

i wasn’t condoning stealing mp3 players or tv’s. haha. i was talking about food and other things.

and the cop i saw on tv saying “do what you gotta do” in front of the walgreens was white, not black.

and i think people aren’t giving an explanation as to why only black people are being seen looting. if this would have happened (by some freak of nature) in white country like montana or some white neighborhood, i’m sure that white people would have looted food and such too. and i’m sure there would be white people taking non essentials as well. same goes for every other race. it’s just that the area that it being shown on tv is a poor, urban, black neighborhood, so of course black people are the ones looting. but they aren’t looting because they are black…if that makes any sense.

and shooting looter on the spot seems to be a little savage for the national guard, esp under the circumstances. people aren’t looting b/c there was a riot after a football game or new years, they are looting because a natural disaster took everything they had. people need to eat and drink. do you really think it’s a good idea to shoot people looting milk and bread?

and i doubt the NG can shoot only certain looters (ie the ones stealing “nonessentials”). it just wouldn’t make sense and be kind of inhumane.

While I am sure whites as well as every race has looted, when you watch the clips of the people at the conventrion center,. It is about 500 blacks to ever 1 white person. Pretty much the reason for what we are seeing. Its a Black community anyway.

So if their are 95% blacks and a low number of other races, their would be a greater chances for the number of people in need to loot.

Theirs a Difference between a Man providing for his family and getting necessities, than somebody who is just taking just to take.

But do remeber, these Tv’s and stuff can be used for barter. down the road. id say a Big screen Tv, could go for a few loafs of bread.

Ebony Queen.

Do you agree that, the media is ran by whites. Majority of reported are white as well as the higher ups.

Why is the world, would any person no matter his/her race show anything to weaken their race. Think about it, it doeant make sense. yes its wrong, but its always going to happen.

Would you agree if you were in charge, you would rather show Whites as the Looters.

I think you would agree.

I only think the NG can kill under martial Law, Currently Martial law is not allowed or possible in Louisiana. Thogh many media outlets have said that it has.

But in other states like Alabama, its very possible, martial law pretty much means simple death for Civilians who do not follow instructions.

But their have been no true instances of martial law.

yet.

I think when people get into a situation where there are dead bodies lying around, they get a little crazy and the world suddenly becomes a little more surreal and even exciting. The city is in ruins, everyone is knee-deep in increasingly filthy water, you’re probably going to die before anyone gets you out, why not enjoy your last days with stolen alcohol? And if you’ve never fired a gun before, now’s your chance. Walmart is empty. At least, that’s their logic.

Besides, the people left in this area aren’t exactly the cream of society. Most intelligent people would have evacuated immediately after seeing the news. The ones that decided to stay are probably not upper class.

The media is ran by Jews honestly; somewhere around 70% is Jewish owned. The media if anything is Anti-White. Here in St. Louis, tons and tons of white people are killed by black people. But oh dear God wouldn’t dare say that on air or even think about saying ‘Black people make up 12% of the population and cause 60% of the crime.’ I’m going to have to call ******** on the

“So if their are 95% blacks and a low number of other races, their would be a greater chances for the number of people in need to loot.”

since in Florida everytime there is a Hurricane and people evacuate…guess who loots? Same people, and it’s mostly white people living in Florida compared to NewOrleans. Black people have never been accused of being paragons of virtue.

jews are white

Tpeck you are a moron and a racist. People of all different kinds of nationalities will loot when under intense stress and hopelessness. The people that stayed behind in NO are not morons. NO is a poor city-- 30-40% of the people there live near the poverty line. How the hell do you expect people with little money to flee a city and abandon their sole posessions? Where are they supposed to go? How the hell do you get out with a small amount of money? The only reason you don’t see more white people looting is because, for the most part, they have all left. I hate to sound stereotypical, but white people are more likely to have money, which enables them to get out of the city.

PS. It may shock you pecs, but black people don’t commit most of the crimes in the country. I know that there are more white people than black people in this nation, but whites still commit a higher percentage of this country’s crime. Why the hell did this thread become a topic of race? There are living, breathing people–Americans-- who are struggling to survive. Why is race being talked about in such a miserable time? This site is supposed to be full of the brightest students this country has to offer, but all i see are a bunch of heartless idiots.

I think that a disaster like this one gives people a chance to show their true colors. Some individuals emerge as heroes by risking their lives to help others. They had that heroism inside before the disaster, but had little opportunity to demonstrate it.

Those who chose to loot their neighbor’s home or pick up a few DVD players, on the other hand, were almost certainly dishonest before. If they didn’t act on their impulses before the disaster, it was because they were constrained by the possibility of getting caught.

JPS, but the ratio to the number of whites and the number of blacks on crime, would show the blacks with a smaller population, still produce more crime. Than the whites with the larger population.

Looting is small beans now. People are being killed and raped there. I can’t believe America is this vulnerable. We have this supposedly fullproof system of government and hard working scientists and police keeping us safe, and then something like this happens. Despite the warnings, thousands still die. I can’t help thinking that we’re one day going to destroy ourselves. We’ll destroy the ozone layer or something worse. And scientists might discover an Earth-like planet and they might even discover a faster way of space travel and enormous space shuttles to cart everyone off, but I don’t believe it’ll really happen. People are too damn stubborn and unprepared. The human race can’t survive forever. Be thankful you’re alive now and not in 100 years. Have kids early so they won’t have to live through too much of that.

um, it was a hurricane that caused this. i mean, it wasn’t really something bad the us did against itself. no gov or scientist could have necessarily prevented the hurricane from coming. yeah, we could have been more prepared, but all this happened because of a natural disaster that raelly couldn’t have been prevented, unless someone had super natural powers.

and i’m sorry your outlook on life and humanity is so bad and depressing, to say the least. humans have been destroying each other since they came into existence, so that’s nothing new. and not to undermine the unfortunate and sever situation in Louisiana, but many parts of the world are in the same, if not worse conditions, and have been for quite some time. so none of this is new. its just because it happened closer to home that americans find it to be more real than hearing about such things in third world countries. it’s all horrible no matter where it happens, but the fact that it happened to the united states doesn’t mean the world is coming to an end. cheer up aim.

and i agree looting is the least of the problems, i was just wondering what others would do in this situation.

the condition in louisiana is getting worse by the minute. people are shooting cops, cops are shooting people, people are dying, getting raped, and starving. people are homeless with nowhere to go and many need medical attention. honestly, i’d rather cops concentrate on helping those in need than arresting looters. where exactly do they put the looters anyway?

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It’s Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren’t there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn’t want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don’t like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don’t let people criticize you for this – after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don’t listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers’ budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn’t cut the money to fix those levees, there weren’t going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them – BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn’t stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It’s not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C’mon, they’re black! I mean, it’s not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don’t make me laugh! Race has nothing – NOTHING – to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit
