Lopsided ACT Score?

I just got my results back from the September 9th ACT:

31 C (35 E, 24 M, 35 R, 28 S)

This is a good improvement from last year’s score (28 C, 32 E, 23 M, 30 R, 26 S). However, my math is really low and I recognize that my score is super lopsided. I’m obviously more of an English guy, and I intend to major in art history. How will colleges view my math score? When I retake it, how will the schools that superscore think of it? Or is 31 “good enough” for premier institutions (I’m thinking Vassar, Williams, Pomona, Princeton, Yale, etc.)?

By the way, I attend a large, majority low-income, underperforming public. I’m a junior with a 4.0 UW GPA, great hooks (URM, low-income), and decent EC’s.

25% for yale is a 32 while 75% is a 35. You want to be between that range. However a 31 doesn’t determine accept or reject in your case. Now just work on making superb essays.

Suggestion: Research their Standardized Tests Policy. I know for a fact yale doesn’t allow score choice and all trials(all results) must be submitted. Keep that in mind when applying to these prestigious schools.

No one can tell you whether a 31 is “good enough”. Nor can we say the Math score is a big tripping point or the other scores overcome the math issue. Make sure you apply to a safety you would be HAPPY to attend and can definitely AFFORD (look for good merit aid or financial aid).
