Lopsided scores

If you have really lopsided SAT/ACT scores, should you be able to raise the lower score and make them near even? Or does that just mean you’re much weaker in one area of reasoning? j/w

This has been discussed here:

You may be able to raise the lower score somewhat with practice and training–but some people are highly skilled in either M or V but not both–like my D, for example. In that case, play to your strengths and perhaps also get a teacher rec saying how hard you have worked to overcome weaknesses in the other area. It’s not a fatal flaw --except perhaps at HYPS, where they reject many double 800 candidates.
