I am trying to make a a one night reservation in LA for my 19 year old. So far Best Western and Radisson have told me you have to be 21. Anybody have direct experience with a hotel in LA that will take an under 21?
I know there are various opinions about this and that some states differ from others. Just looking for someone who knows from direct experience of a specific hotel that will allow it. I’ve found that some will tell you on the phone that it is okay but when you expedia the reservation it states 21. Then I call the hotel and ask for the manager who reiterates the 21 rule. I don’t want her to go down there and then be turned away.

My son did stay at a hotel in LA at age 18. I booked the reservation by telephone and had to fax my credit card. Booked the room for myself and for him and left notice that he was to check in first. Not a problem.

That is a great idea, cptofthehouse. I will remember that.

The only question I have is would your son have to show the credit card when he arrived? I have had that happen when booking online.

It won’t work with a rental car, but it seems easy enough for a hotel.

I did the same when my son missed a flight at LAX but this time they are telling me that you have to be 21. I am not going to be with her at all…not arriving later.
Forgot to add: she has her own credit card. That is not the issue.

D and 3 friends went to Disneyland after High School graduation. She (was 18) called several hotels, being sure to tell them she was 18, and none of them had a problem with her making the reservation and paying for the room. Maybe it was just the area of LA.

Gotta ask Samurai…how did you get over 2 billion posts???

thumper,

Probably if you subtract 2,147,483,000 from my post count, you would get closer to the real number of my posts.

Some cool glitch, though, huh?

Thumper, you are just sooo observant! Samurai, they just wanted the back and front of the card faxes for check in. Then he can just do automatic check out.

Rental cars are a whole other story. Zip cars is a great way to go for college kids. One of the few ways to go. Here in my area, you cannot rent with debit card even if you are over the cut off age which I believe is 24. You have to find a non mainline car rental place or go with zipcars.
