You see a lot of people like that in NYC and SF too. What’s sadder than anything is the people going into biglaw in New York City-the pay is lockstep and the same no matter where you live, yet they choose the place with the worst quality of life and the highest cost of living. Whatever, I’ll have the last laugh when at the age of 40 they’ve finally saved enough money to buy a 1 bedroom apartment of their own with a beautiful view of the alley and the dumpster.

I personally would never live in New York or California. I didn’t consider the flyover states until I saw the cost of living numbers, which were shockingly cheap.

Do you guys realize that most everybody hates LA? It’s not like you guys are being rebellious. I’d say the most overrated city is Seattle. Everybody thinks it’s a quainter San Francisco, but it’s a really boring place with a high COL and cold, boring people who for the most part act alike in public.

On a random note, I <3 Tulsa and the flat Oklahoma plains in general.

I completely understand the cons that many people have found about LA.
I’ve lived here all my life. Aside from the beautiful weather all the time, it’s the culture that makes this such a beautiful city. You say it’s ugly? Of course it’s ugly, it’s one of the oldest cities. The public transportation is NOT horrible. We have the metro…it’s just not right in front of your face like in NY or Seattle or something. Go to la plazita olvera and learn about the hispanic culture that existed during the development of the city of angels. sure, gangs are prominent, and they are everywhere else. But there’s nothing like driving the 5 North and seeing the skyscrapers in the beautiful sunset.

If you don’t like LA (or have only seen it from LAX which is honestly an awful depiction of LA) then that’s cool! I totally respect that. But it’s not overrated. It has its pros and cons…just like any other city.

If you hate LA, it’s probably because you sit at home and don’t go out. It’s not like NY where everything is a few skips away. There are so many hidden treasures in this city, you just have to seek them out.

I have to agree with Melissa. I don’t think there should be such a thing as an “over-rated city”, much like an idea we simply buy into. Personally I would prefer NYC but I think LA has its own treasures, aside from the prototypical “LA is so materialistic” complaint, which I tend to believe is true…

I’d still love to visit LA - just to stalk the celebs.

im an east coaster-- ny/nj area
and all i can say is that the east coast is way better than the west coast
but much seriously, LA is a good place to visit…not to live.
i grew up in nyc/nj and i love it.
its not overrated to me…there’s always something new to do and you never get bored.

I thought it was an awesome place to vacation and just have some relaxing fun in the sun.
But I couldn’t see myself living there at all. I would go insane.
