Lost Kindle - what should I do with my account?

About 95% sure I left my Kindle Paperwhite in the seat back of an airplane earlier this week. I have placed a lost and found query with Southwest Airlines, but honestly don’t expect to ever see that one again. Amazon has them on sale, so I ordered a new one today. Do I need to ‘do’ anything else? The only thing I’ve ever used my Kindle for is downloading books and reading - I’ve never used it to surf the internet, so not sure what information might be saved in there that someone could use. H is suggesting I de-activate my account. I’ve been checking my Visa account twice daily and no charges have come up. Anything I’m overlooking?

If I deactivate my account, how do I set up the new one when it arrives this week?

What about just changing the password? (I don’t own a Kindle).

You will want login to your amazon account and deregister the lost device from your account. That way if it is in someone else’s hands now they can’t use your account to buy new content for it. Also I think it will perhaps even reset it if they reconnect it to wifi so that they can’t access your content any longer (including what may have been on the device when you lost it not sure on that though).

To deregister it, go to “manage your devices” on the kindle store, there is a link to deregister it. If it ever turns up again, it shouldn’t be a problem to re-register it.

Definitely de register it! And if it turns up again, you can re-register it.

Thanks… I had sort of searched on that part of my account online, from my laptop, but couldn’t find what to do. I’d forgotten that it is actually registered under H’s name, so once he logged on, he was able to deactivate and deregister it, from the link and information above.

Hmmm… just had another thought. I have the Kindle app on my iPhone. Do I need to do something with that?

No, you don’t need to do anything else.

My husband did the same thing with a nook. He unregistered it online immediately so no one else would,be able to even use it if they tried.

He ordered a new one online (from my device) and it was at our house before we were. No issue transferring all of his books to the new device…at all.

Just deregister it. If it shows up you can register it again.
