Venmo transactions can take up to 3 days to clear and I believe the money goes into her bank account.
Is there a local branch of her bank near her school. She could try going into the branch with her student id. since she knows the PIN on her account and has a school issued ID, that may be enough for her to get a temp card and access to her account. If more ID is needed, do you have her passport or birth certicate? You could overnight them to her and she could go into bank and explain the issues.
She has medication she needs refilled, so after reading here we’ll do the cvs thing tomorrow. She did get her school id redone so she has access to food. She said her picture was awful. Of course she was so flustered she dropped half her lunch on the floor and the line was too long she didn’t get back online. So naturally she went back to her dorm to lay in bed and watch Gilmore Girls and text me about it being the worst day.
I still don’t understand the 3 day wait for Western Union. Is that for an on-line transaction? The local grocery stores here all handle the Western Union transactions and it’s instantaneous. DD picked up her money in Chile within 30 minutes of my wire transfer. So easy with the transfer number and password with no ID. Was that because I showed up in person (at the grocery store) and paid cash?
My point about Venmo is that she could borrow money from someone, while you put that money into their account. Isn’t there anyone she can borrow a little bit of cash from? My kids friends borrow from him all the time. Also, with the medication, wonder if you can just call the pharmacy, tell them the issue and give them your credit card info over the phone, so she can pick it up. Some pharmacies will let you order and pay for a refill online, also.
She wants to avoid asking friends. She’s also going to a concert this weekend as part of her Christmas present and will need money for gas and parking. She’s still checking all the lost and found places. Her prescription is at cvs and we have several here so I think that will be the easiest way. The wallet was also a tori Burch I bought her for her birthday so she’s really bummed about that. Quite the life lesson, she can be an airhead misplacing things so hopefully this gets her more aware.
Sorry for her troubles. S had his wallet and phone stolen once toward end of semester. He checked around and was able to find discarded wallet missing cash but otherwise intact where thief had abandoned it. To be safe, we had cancelled his credit cards and gotten new ones anyway.
Both my kids and their friends are happy to help others out and be helped out when someone loses a wallet.
Happened to my D her first year at Dartmouth some years ago. I held off cancelling credit cards for a day and another student emailed her that evening to say he’d found it. She hasn’t lost anything since. A useful lesson – albeit a stressful one.
