Louisiana State University Class of 2029 Official Thread

My kid recently got accepted to another school ED2. Arguably a better school. He withdrew his other applications and declined outstanding admissions offers. LSU’s letter after my kid withdrew said that by withdrawing he was declining scholarships they had offered him. Only they never offered him anything bc they neither accepted, denied, deferred or waitlisted him. Just radio silence. I feel like it’s a good school but the way they run their admissions is just odd. It’s really too bad. They should really look into an overhaul. No other school he applied to out of many schools seems even remotely this disorganized.

I agree with you completely. It’s been incredibly stressful. Have you called or emailed? My daughter and I have both emailed numerous times without any response. However I did call last week and was told it’s “under review” and she could get a decision in a couple of weeks but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. I’ve asked this question on other chats but haven’t ever received an answer. Do you know if anyone has actually been rejected yet?

I have called once a week since October. I am always nice and feel bad for those who have to field all of our calls. But this is ridiculous. But with 30,000 applications they need a lot of our kids to withdraw. I do know that denial letters have been sent since last year so it is happening. My nephew got his acceptance last year in April and applied in September but ended up going to Missouri instead.

Ok. I was asking because I’ve heard that if she hasn’t been rejected by now, she’ll likely get in. But I didn’t even know if anyone had actually been rejected yet. I’d like to believe that’s the case but I don’t know. This is torture. I guess I’ll call again in a few days…

I hope that she gets in still. I like to assume they already looked at her application and decided not to reject her and just pushed her to the side. Like getting picked last for a team or something. She is not a 4.3 GPA 30 ACT student. She is out of state as well.

Same situation here. My son applied to 15 colleges and got accepted or heard back from everyone except LSU. This is so hard because it is his first choice. He applied test optional in September and has a 3.7. He has played multiple sports and worked full time. He plans to join ROTC at LSU of he gets accepted. We are losing hope and very stressed out.

Congratulations!! This is an accomplishment! LSU had over 49,000 applicants this year, and accepted only 7,000 students so far. We heard this at the admitted students day last week.

They actually accept over 70% of applicants. The freshman class size is approximately 7000. I think they average about a 25% yield rate. We were at admitted students day yesterday and they mentioned having a class size of 7000 a lot and the 50000+ applicants being a record.

With apps over 50,000 I suspect the OOS acceptance rate will likely be closer to 60% this go around (assuming most of increase is OOS). Continuing the trend of the southern flagships becoming more challenging

Still no decision on our end but I hate that they use term “holistic” review. I believe that they accept the top xx number of applicants first. Wait a couple months and see who enrolls. Then go to the next batch, see who enrolls, until they reach their max number. I have to believe that applying in October, they have already looked at my daughters application “holistically” lol. Probably put it to the side because her application won’t change next time its “holistically” reviewed. Once again I will say, the admissions people are very nice so I will be “holistically” patient and hope for the best.

Congratulations! My D checks her admission portal multiple times a day. The last few days it’s been blank. Does anyone know what that means? She has emailed back and forth a few times with admissions and they have responded promptly. I just hate to see her constantly on pins and needles.

Congratulations! I know you’re relieved and happy! We’re still waiting. Did you call the admission counselor assigned to her or just general admissions?

My D also applied early and didn’t hear back until Jan 28 and was admitted and then heard back 2/25 she was admitted into the architecture program (it requires portfolio and separate application)

My OOS D who applied early was notified on 1/28 she was accepted and on 2/25 that she was accepted into the architecture program which is a separate application. Super happy kid!

Thank you! I would always call general admissions but they just looked at what we could see online which was blank anyway.

Correct. Their yield averages 25-30%. At 50,000 applicants, that equates to an acceptance rate of 65-70%.

They severely overenrolled the last few years. Resources are strained, they probably admitted students that just left a semester later because they couldn’t hack it, for reasons that are unclear. It’s not just LSU. Several SEC universities are doing this.

Perhaps but no other sec schools seems to have an admissions office this seemingly disorganized and slow.
