Lounge Furniture?

I was looking through rules of New House and stumbled upon this one that some other dorms have as well:

I would understand the fine if you stole a piece of furniture from the lounge, but does this also mean any type of couch?

Maybe they just mean you can’t take/steal the dorm’s community/lounge furniture… why should they care if you have your own couch? (Good luck finding space for one though.) I’ll be really surprised if a current student replies saying personal couches aren’t allowed.

…especially because of grey areas like futons. Who’s to say which of your personal furniture is considered “lounge furniture”?

They are referring specifically to Institute-provided furniture in dorm lounges.

Thanks Hamster and jessiehl.

out of curiosity, is that sort of rule enforced? like, if i took a chair to keep in my room because i had a friend over and kept it for a few days would someone fine me?

Haha, that rule isn’t even enforced if you took the chair and didn’t give it back ever.

The only times they take an inventory of what’s in your room: at the beginning of the year, during annual fire inspections, at the end of the year. As long as you only have what you’re assigned during fire inspections and at the end of the year, you’re fine. :)

Well, unless you take something whose owner is unhappy without. In other words, don’t take furniture from other floor’s/entry’s lounges or from your own unless you know no one will care. Even then, I still doubt you’d get fined, but you don’t want to make your new dormmates unhappy, do you?
