In my NMSQT essay, I’m writing about my very severely autistic camper and how she’s taught me about giving without reciprocation. I write a lot about how I love her (“It took, and still takes, a lot of effort for me to realize that no matter how much I love her, shell never love me back in the same way.”), but while two people I’ve shown the essay to have had no comment about it, two others said that using the word “love” makes it sound weird, like it’s in a romantic sense, which it’s obviously not in this case.
I think that’s ridiculous, but if enough people think otherwise then I guess it’ll have to go. (Interestingly, the people who didn’t say a word both worked in the same special-needs camp as I worked at, and the other two did not- I wonder if there’s a connection there.)

when i read it, i didn’t get the sense of a creepy romantic love lol

i think you’re fine, and it seems like a good essay topic.
