<p>I cracked up at this paragraph in the first edition of the Phoenix. Registrar Martin Warner commenting on the use of on-line course registration for first-year students:</p>

The switch to online registration, however, did remove what had become somewhat of a rite of passage at Swarthmore: the anxious wait to register for classes that marks most students’ first academic experience. “We took away the opportunity to bond around pain and suffering. Hopefully the first-years will have other chances,” Warner said.
