Low Class Rank, High GPA, High ACT

How much will having a low class rank (around 18%) affect me if my rank is low because I attend a school with 50 in my graduating class? My gpa is a 3.9 and my ACT is a 32. I applied to CAS.

Many school systems do not even rank and therefore it isn’t a factor at all in that situation. I think what is likely to matter more to admissions is the strength of your particular curriculum and how the demands and rigor of that curriculum compare to those taken by others in your senior class. When students are coming from such a small class as yours, rank becomes much less significant NYU takes a holistic look at students, and also at the specific college they are applying to and the goodness of fit for that college in terms of your preparation, goals, demonstrated interest, etc. Your GPA and test scores are strong so obviously you can handle the work, I would imagine your essays and other elements such as recommendations and ECs will be important.

Thanks so much! I am really glad to hear that.
