low composite score.

I scored a 19 on it. I cant retake anymore. Will this affect my college chances.

You might want to look at some schools that don’t require any test scores for admission, because a 19 is very low.

Have you taken the SAT? You might do better on that.

It will definitely affect your chances. Why can’t you take them again? Have you tried the SATs?

Dear bmsa91,

Take a look at why your score was 19. Was it due to academic preparation, a test glitch, or your personal abilities?

Academic preparation:
What did other students at your school score? Do you attend a high school with low to middle academic standards? Some high school just don’t prepare students for college work. You may need to head out of town, to a cc, prep school (PG year) or other high school to compete a REAL high school college prep program. With a real college prep background your score will pop up naturally.

Some folks may see that score and assume that you are not college material; deflect that negativism. You may be college material, just not right now. Look at the situation from the long view, not just for next year’s plan but for a college plan for admission within the next 5 years.

Test Glitch:
On the other hand, if your intellectual peers are scoring way higher, and your teacher are surprised by your score, there may just be a plain old glitch in the test. Pay for a hand re-score.

Abilities
Is 19 comparable with your other tests and class performance? If you really want to go to college now, there are over 4000 colleges out there, with a fair number which specialize in college education for people like you. Do a college board or peterson’s match search.

These test measure college readiness - for a majority of these 4000+ college. You may not be ready for most colleges, but there are plenty who would welcome you.

Nobody on CC or really anywhere can advise you without your looking inward to find the source of the ACT 19.

Well, at least it went up from your last score of 18. You should try again.

There are many ACT/SAT test optional schools, where you do not have to submit your scores at all for your admission application. Many of these are fine college/universities (Muhlenburg, Stonehill College, and an array of others - just google test optional schools and consider applying to some of those based upon your GPA, interests, etc.).

Wow - I stand corrected…

While interspection is always a good idea, I found the following data on Peterson’s.

In Texas alone there are 215 colleges. Of these only 17 (Baylor, Rice, SMU, UT etc) do not have a 19 within their 25% to 75% range. At all the rest a 19 is just fine, lovely in fact. At 198 colleges in texas you would be most welcome.

I apologize - on CC we tend to forget that the world does not revolve around those who have ACT/32 or SAT/700s. Those with ACT/19 are the bread and butter of the vast majority of colleges. Congratulations!

why can’t u take it again? take it in september/octomber b4 the college deadlines. try sat in octomber too.

just take the compass exam at the college your going to

Toadstool when you mentioned “Abililities” I thought you were also going to delve into whether or not a student may have an undiagnosed ADD condition. If a student has a good GPA and is well rounded perhaps they do not test well because of issues with concentration. Does anyone have any facts or feedback on this topic?

I think this guy is a ■■■■■. In this other thread he says he already has a 21 and is looking to improve to a 27…
