Low cost or funded summer programs

I’m a high school senior who is constantly searching for service, creative writing, art history, foreign language, history, etc. programs in the US or abroad. I always feel stuck because I can’t drop $4000+ on a single program. If you know of any humanities programs that offer good scholarships, financial aid, or grants (or are just on the cheaper side), please let me know!

Already attended: Iowa Young Writers, Columbia Writing Workshop
Applied but was too expensive: Interlochen, New York Times Journalism, CIEE Summer Abroad in Italy

Thank you so much!

You can volunteer at a local museum or historical society, you can start a “writers circle” at your local public library, or volunteer to moderate a memoir or creative writing program at a senior center or assisted living. voila- instant free program.

Ball State in Indiana and University of Indiana had some under $500 for 1 week. Or look at adding a large service project to your resume

Good to know, thanks!

Middlebury College offers outstanding foreign language classes each summer.

If I recall correctly, your initial focus was on gaining an offer of admissions to Yale University. If you liked Yale, then you may be interested in Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

Great info, thanks! I hadn’t considered Middlebury for foreign languages but definitely see how it could be helpful.
