Is it possible to bring your first year gpa up (2.9) to a decent 3.6-3.7? First year was tough for me and I’m wondering if people out there have been able to do this.
Is it common to have a low gpa your fist year?

[UCR, Honors Program- GPA Calculation Tools](http://www.honors.ucr.edu/gpa_calc.htm)

Of course. I just ended freshman year with a 3.0, and I’m not too worried. Freshman year is meant to be a settling-in period for some anyway.

F is future GPA average and T is target GPA:

(2.9 + F + F + F)/4 = T

=>

F = 4/3*(T - 2.9/4)

So if your target is 3.5, you need to average a 3.7 for the next three years.

If your target is a 3.7, you need to average a 3.97 for the next three years.

*assuming you take the same number of graded credits each year

if you took a light load your first year, itll be a lot easier to raise your gpa the following three years given that you take relatively more units each year

i went from 2.8 after my first 4 quarters to 3.5 going into my senior year

thanks for the input everyone

Completely flip your study habits around and avoid B’s as much as possible.
Try to average a ~3.8 for the next 3 years. Not for the faint of heart but it’s possible.
