If someone is a transfer student and receives a GPA that is below 1.5 their first quarter at UCSD, will they be academically disqualified? or is there any way that this person can get one quarter to raise the GPA? They were admitted to UCSD for Fall 2009 and took Physics and Physics lab in the summer at UCSD right before attending and got B’s in both. During the first quarter, if they recieve an F in organic chemistry, a C in biological anthropology, and a C in genetics, (all upper division courses), the term GPA is 1.3 while the cumulative is 1.8. Does this mean automatic dismissal? Anything they can do to get another chance to improve the gpa? Please help!

The first place to look is the student handbook. At [Academic Standing](http://www.ucsd.edu/current-students/academics/grades/academic-standing.html) I find “Undergraduates,” – I am assuming that the person you’re talking about is an undergraduate, “you are considered subject to academic disqualification from further registration if at the end of any term your GPA for that term is less than 1.5, or if you have completed two successive terms on academic probation without achieving a cumulative GPA of 2.0,” but it also says to check with the department.

What is the student’s major?
