low gpa/good ACT for depaul?

I am in love with Depaul University, it’s my top school and I want nothing more than to go there. Unfortunately I was basically an idiot all of freshman, sophomore, and part of junior year - I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life and lacked the motivation to do well in school. Towards the end of junior year I started to realize what I wanted to do - communications - and I visited Depaul and knew that I HAD to go to this school.

My GPA is 2.37. Bad, I know. My ACT is pretty good, 27. What are my chances of getting into Depaul with my GPA and ACT?

(I’m new to this site, sorry if this is the wrong place for this post!)

hey, im a current depaul student. I transfered in from a community college.

1) I see that you are a communications major? what school is that in? las? or business? the school of liberal arts and sciences might have a lower gpa requirement for admission. whereas the business school is usually a bit higher, since it is competitive. last time i checked i think it was 2.0 for las and 2.5 for business. at least that was the case for transfer students. you should look that up, or speak to a counselor.

2) your act score is pretty decent, that might help mitigate your gpa. i would suggest you try to get reccomendation letters from some teachers you did well with. that might help solidify your application. of course depaul admissions might say they dont need them…but still it wont hurt.

3) if your communications major is in las, then you might be able to get in. if it is in business, then you might have a harder time. I would suggest you send in your application early…like 5 months early, that way there isnt a whole bunch of apps for the counselors to go through.

4) you have to think tactics: a smart way to do things would be to get in to the las school and later transfer to the business (if communications is in business)

5) if you still dont get in, then i would suggest going the community college route.

good luck
