Low GPA, High Test Scores, Chance me for UC?

<p>SAT: 800 CR 760 Math 680 Writing
ACT: 33 English 32 Math 33 Reading 29 Science
GPA: 3.0 weighted currently (Just finished 11th)
EC: Mock Trial for 2 years, team was 2nd in district this year
Science Olympiad, team was 3rd in state this year
Interact Club (community service for Rotary Club)
Weightlifting
Dunno if this counts as a EC but I’m in Mensa and plan to put this on my application</p>

<p>I plan to major in Computer Science, and my reach schools right now are UC Davis and UC Irvine, since I hear they have the best CS programs in Cali outside of the elite schools like Berkeley and Caltech. The reason my scores are this bad are because I had an absolutely terrible Freshman year, though my scores have improved since then and I’m hoping the colleges will notice that. I know I can’t possibly get into any top 30 school with my GPA no matter how my test scores are, but I’m wondering if there’s even a ghost of a chance I could get into those two schools I want.</p>

<p>How active are you within Mensa? And, if those two fail, what CSUs have decent CS programs and that you can get into?</p>

<p>Try NCSU I heard their Comp Sci is alright. But that 21k OOS may hurt…</p>

<p>I just got accepted into Mensa last month, haven’t gone to any events yet. I was planning to just focus on UCs so even if I didn’t get into those two I could try for Santa Cruz or Merced or something, so I’m not sure which CSUs have the best CS programs. Cal Poly looks good, but it looks like just as much of a reach school as UCI and UCD are.</p>
