hi, im a senior this year…at a competative HS in Fairfax county…
i have a 2.8…because i had a 2.4 9th and 10th grade, at an international school i attended in South Africa. i had a 3.6 my junior year, taking 3 IB classes all HL ( English, History, Biology)…this year im taking 5 classes doin even better…(eng , bio, chem, business, history)…
to Take IB chem II withouth ib chem 1 required me to do alot of Shizz…i had to get all this stuff signed because i nearly failed basic chem…im doin well now…i had my only C + in that class…but 2nd quarter im hoping for at least a B…will my upward trend help out?

EC’s: a bunch…MUN won 2 1st place, 1 3rd place award…Science olympiad…Soweto Aids orphanage volunteer in south africa, JV volleyball captin(9th and 10th), im treasurer of muslim students association, co-founder of the sudanese cultural club at my school. i also volunteered at omdurman hospital this summer, in sudan.

work exp:i worked with my dad at the IMF office in south africa, and held a job this summer in sudan as a librarian at imam alhadi college, and taught three sessions of english ( substitute)

SAT: i got 1050 1st time( assume thats my score when evaluating), my SAT II’s are all 600+…i hope to retake an dget into the 700 range
im hoping for Solid recs.

I REALLY want to go to UPENN…i wanna show them how bad i wanan go…how could i do that besides interview…etc?
im also black and from Sudan if that helps…im a permanent resident of the US…i know i suck…and thank you for reading…feedback would be very appreciated…( and i plan to adress upward trend, etc in my essays)

I would really hardcore focus on your Sudaness and your time in South Africa, because a 2.8 is really going to hurt you. I want to say you wouldn’t get in, but you have an interesting background so maybe that would give you a slight chance but I dont’ know hte stats are pretty dismal.

wow…u’re unique…i think upenn will like that, but then again thats probably just wishful thinking…anywayz to show them how bad u really wanna go I think the only thing to do besides interviews is to write some awesome essays…i hear they’re scale tippers…Also u could probably try to get really good recs (maybe even some from officials or something) …an maybe send in an extra resume, but i dunno if upenn likes those…

um perfecte, id say cornell, its what i like to call the backdoor ivy (sorry cornellians), it seems that its easiest ivy to get in. best of luck.

thank you all for the advice…i was considering cornell…but i was discouraged by the many complaints i saw about it being insanely hard…and depressing, etc…r all these claims true

not true! ivy leagues are pretty much the same to get in, so many people 1500+ got rejected by cornell, so i don’t know… i like the other post that tell you to make up excuses. You have a better chance with that. use your ECs, they are really good!!! and try to write in your scores in a lighter color of pencil and then smudge it so that the 1050 might look like 1550 and the 600s on sats may look like 680 something

You have a very unique background, however, i must honestly tell you that I’ve never heard of anyone w/ stats that low earn acceptance 2 penn. I mean a 2.8/4 and a 1050 is reallllllly pushing it; the stats r just so weak.
