Low gpa really high ACT & SAT scores

What chance do I have in getting into a 4 year university with a low gpa but really high ACT and SAT scores. Plus good recommendations and a great admission essay. I did extra curricular activities and a lot of volunteer work.

Quite a decent chance…I’d say. Just try your best to bring it up…even if you don’t, you won’t have a massive problem with getting into some pretty decent universities

Depends on the school. You’ll be fine for many, many great schools if your scores are high, but for that very top tier, you need a strong GPA too. The exception is if there’s a reason for your low GPA like death in the family, prolonged illness, etc.

everyone’s telling me I need a 3.0

As luisarose said, it depends very much on the schools you’re thinking of. A GPA below between 3.0 is rather low for many schools, but acceptable with high scores for others.

Well you need to be more specific than just “low” and “high”. How low is low and how high is high?

Low as in 2.0

Why is it so low? If there’s not a valid reason that will be a SERIOUS problem for most colleges.

Yws there’s a valid reason

In that case, as long as you can explain the valid reason in your application (like in the extra info section), they will understand, and your high test scores will show that you are capable. I think you’ll be fine as long as you communicate with admissions and make sure that they understand your situation.

What kind of four-year university? Not all of them are selective in the first place. If you want to go to a more selective school and can’t get in, you could start at a community college and then transfer.

Ok thank you

What are your ACT and SAT scores?

If you have a valid reason you should be okay as long as you explain it, but if you don’t and have high SAT/ACT it might look like you are slacking. Try to show that even though you are under bad circumstances that you are working hard and trying to improve.
