Low GPA w/ High Scores Looking to ED Bates [NV resident, 3.48 GPA, 35 ACT]

  1. You go to a private school so talk to counseling. They know where kids like you can get accepted based on historical data.
  2. You’ll use your ACT, not SAT
  3. The counselors, not you, will be the one that report your rank in the class that will be used.
  4. Your rigor doesn’t seem very high but again, being at a private it might be or vs the school overall.
  5. Very few submit a test to Bates - less than 1/5 on enrollees. So that’s good. But based on rank, you have little chance. But again, you go to a private. If they send half to schools like Bates you may be ok.
  6. Some will say you should take physics vs another bio. Not saying you need to but noting. Some will also say you need another social science year. They require 3 but recommend four per CDS.
  7. Personally, I’d change the essay topic. I’m not sure you earn points discussing mental health issues. Colleges are risk averse and strained services wise. You needn’t explain your grades away or let your counselor do so. Find something else to write about - your love of helping people or how you live flying or how living in the world of Teslas that own the Las Vegas streets vs the former sounds of gas changed your mindset or how getting a hockey team in Vegas changed your life or why your favorite kind of pant material is corduroy or favorite food is Italian or the exhilaration of riding a roller coaster on the top of a hotel is second to none. It can be interesting but I would stay far from your subject.

You said you only want to know about Bates or possible matches Do you only want to be in the Northeast ? Only an LAC ? Budget considerations - Bates is $90k plus a year so $400k for you with extras. So that price is ok ? Or has your family run the net price calculator to determine your price.

Best of luck.
