Bates tells us right on their common data set that while they will consider standardized test scores if submitted, they do not regard them as an important criterion for admissions decisions. So, if you’re looking for bare test scores to be the difference maker, Bates is not the place for that. They’ve been test optional for more than 50 years, so they’re very experienced at making their admissions decisions based on gpa, rigor, and other factors. If you want to make your essay about overcoming obstacles such as your mental health challenges and about your ECs, that is probably your best shot. In this case, you can use your test scores to show that you have untapped potential.
What is there about Bates which has led you to have such a strong preference for them?
