LOW GRE SCORE

I just took GRE and got 303 (quant:161 and verbal:142).
Currently in final year in IIT (B.tech-C.S.E)with CGPA(7.0/10) for six semesters.
Pubs : one and hope to get another one by the end of graduation, currently in progress.
LOR : 4 LOR [3 from professors and one from company I did internship in].
Is there any chance for me to land a good Graduate College in US,Singapore,UK or Japan [MS in Computer Science].
If yes Which one’s.

Any graduate school? Some UK and Japanese universities don’t require the GRE. Oxford doesn’t. The University of Tokyo seems to administer their own entrance exam but doesn’t necessarily require the GRE. The National University of Singapore does require the GRE in their CS programs, but I’m not sure if that’s the case across universities in Singapore.

So yes, there may be a chance for you at universities that don’t require the GRE. But at universities that do…the 142V is in the 16th percentile. Although verbal is not as important as quantitative for CS programs, I would imagine programs would have a difficult time overlooking that.

I agree with @juillet. The low verbal score will be a problem for the highly selective programs but there are plenty of good programs which don’t have such high GRE requirements. however, since there are so many CS programs, it is pointless to ask for recommendations. Do a bit of homework and come up with a list of potential schools you would like and then ask about them specifically. Remember though that your CGPA and GRE scores will not be good enough for those really selective programs.

@xraymancs
Kyoto university department of communication and computer engineering
University of Tokyo (graduate school of information science and tech.) department of computer science or department of information and communication engineering.

I’m inclined to first department in university of Tokyo.

Masters in computer science in NUS AND NTU

TU9 Germany for masters in computers science

Georgia tech , cal tech, upenn, pennstate, Rochester and Carnegie Mellon for masters in computers science

I know they have high criterion but in some cases I saw last years fall and last to last year fall sem lists and they took at 305 ,310-315 score people also. So can should apply in these.

Also I’m considering taking GRE again so any suggestion on decent score,I should go for because with college going on its bit difficult to prepare for GRE

I am guessing your cgpa probably doesn’t make you one of the top students at your university. So, your average cgpa and average GRE Quant score may suggest you are an average student, not necessarily CMU or CalTech material. Although, these issues can be overcome by the reputation of your professors and what they write about you n your LORs.

In my opinion, since you are a foreign student, your GRE Verbal score will not be scrutinized as closely as your TOEFL score by cs programs in the US.

I really can’t say about schools in Japan or Europe. They will have different criteria for admissions than those in the U.S. However, for the U.S. schools you list, it will be very unlikely because of your CGPA primarily. The quantitative GRE is OK, but not outstanding. If you take it again, getting a few points higher would be helpful. Remember that 161 is about 86%ile.

My suggestion is to apply to one or at the most two of the U.S. schools you like and then try to find some which are not quite as selective. Let me note that your total GRE is marginal for consideration at my school, Illinois Institute of Technology, where a 304 is the listed minimum for many Masters programs (CS is a bit lower though).
