Low Performing County

I want to go to one of the UCs and I’ve just noticed that even though I’ve taken challenging classes at my school, they do not even compare to some of the classes I see other CCers listing.

For example:

-At my school, it is impossible to complete 50+ semesters of approved A-G courses.

-My school only offers about 5 AP classes.

-California County with lowest college attendance rate

-Less than 10 percent of students from my school each year go to any kind of 4 year university.

Will I be at a disadvantage or advantage?

Which UCs you mean, first of all?

UC Irvine mostly.

Ha, just where I live
I personally don’t think UCI’s admissions is crazy like that of UCBs or LAs or SDs.

If your school only offers 5, then go for it. Some schools have more, some have less. Many colleges consider what was available to you, in terms of academics (ie how many honors classes, ap classes, ib (if available) are provided by the school, etc)

In a poorly reputed school like the one you attend, it would be advantageous if you excell in such place. Whereas if you’re attending a very competitive high school (like mine) or a magnet, a 3.7 would be somewhat equivalent to a 4.0 in your HS. So keep that in mind, that the less competent a school is, the better you should be.
