Can anyone explain why MIT’s over ratings are 2.33? That seems really low for any school, let along a school that students seem to love.

MIT has its own professor-rating system that all students are encouraged to fill out every semester, and the scores there are pretty high. I’m guessing that most MIT students who use Rate My Professor are those that particularly dislike their professors, so you’re probably not getting an unbiased sample of the MIT student population’s opinion.

What lidusha says.

I used RMP when I was in college (not at MIT) - and it was reliably unreliable.

My son’s used it and had good success. However, he knows that when students complain about hard professors, that’s a good sign. His calc III professor had either “love him” or “hate him”, depending on how hard the student was willing to work.
