So I hate the SAT and did very poorly on it. I understand that the SAT is not for me. I haven’t read many books since birth so I had a lot of timing issues with the Reading section. I hate it. I did look into quite a few schools that were test optional for that matter. I am an international student.
I was home-schooled and I am 16 years old. I will be going to college early.
SAT - 1720 (M 600, R 480, W 640)
TOEFL - 102 (R 24, L 24, W, 28, S 26)
GPA - 3.53 (I would say I have a pretty decent academic rigor. I mostly had A- and B+. I don’t have AP classes since I was home-schooled)

Recs - Wonderful. I have 1 from the program coordinator of my organization, 1 from my internship supervisor and the other from my home-school supervisor.
Essay - 7-8/10 maybe? It talks more about my views on society and people and why I feel strongly about the environment and sociology.
I am looking at a liberal arts college. My EFC is $15,000. My intended major is Sociology and Computer Science. I am not looking at top tier, nor am I looking at 2nd or 3rd tier universities.
I am looking for universities like DePauw, Earlham or Beloit. Ones that give good aid to international students and have a holistic review, so that my CR score doesn’t hurt. Test optional would be good too.
I already got accepted to Albion and Earlham.
What other colleges can I look at?

That’s not so bad. You should take the SAT again if you can also the ACT. Adelphi university, Molloy, Hofstra, St. Johns, in NY; Quinnipiac in Connecticut, University of New Haven, UConn, Eastern Connecticut State University, Alabama, The University of West Florida, Penn. State. Also try SUNY’s like Binghampton, Stony brook, Albany, Buffalo, etc.
@sharebear111 Thank you. I shall look into them. I don’t think I’m gonna retake the SAT or write ACT. I guess I might be leaning towards test optional schools or schools that have low scores. Schools that I have my average of Math and Writing so hopefully they might overlook my CR. Either way, Thank you.
oh and ohio state and u of minnesota have good comp sci/ engineering programs but they require higher sat scores. but you never know- with your EC’s you may have a good chance.

Don’t “graduate” early. At this point, you need a much higher SAT or ACT score to be competitive for merit aid…AND you need to apply to schools much earlier in the application cycle.
Can your parents actually pay your $15,000 a year family contribution? You can’t have an EFC because you are an international student who can’t complete a FAFSA. So…where is THAT number coming from?
@thumper1 I’m not retaking the SAT. Some 4th or 5th tier universities have a rolling admissions policy. Again, I’m not looking for colleges with high SAT scores and I’m looking for ones that are mostly test optional.
My parents can pay about so much. I had done the CSS Profile. And the CSS Profile has an online calculator that calculates EFC.

Don’t rely too much on that online calculator. You are an international student. Plus all of the Profile schools have different formulas for computing aid using the Profile data.
If you are looking for merit aid, be aware that many test optional schools require scores for awarding of merit aid. They are test optional for admissions…but not all are test optional for merit financial aid.
You are looking for really a full tuition and fees scholarship.
What is your net cost at Earlham or Albion? More than the $15,000 your parents can pay?

Yes, they are a little higher. But I am close to the Albion admissions guy and he did say I might be able to negotiate in April or so depending on how classes shape up. I’ve been closely in touch with most of the admissions counselors.
The schools I’ve applied to have decent SAT scores and some don’t require SAT for scholarships too. I’ve done my research. I’ve also taken interviews with all of them and have gone through their packages. After all offers come out, I might negotiate. I have been in touch with most of the counselors since August last year so they know me really well, they about my interest and my work.
My dad did tell me that he would be able to contribute so much towards my cost of education anyway. He said if there’s not enough luck, he may take a loan and be able to pay till about 20k. But that’s a very last case scenario.
Can someone tell me my chances at those universities?
At the universities you’ve already applied to? Just wait and see what replies you get. It’s hard to say. Are you asking if there are any other universities you should apply to?
George Washington recently dropped SAT scores as a requirement.

@insanedreamer Yes I’ve gone through quite a few schools on that but not all of them seem interesting. Also since I’m Home-schooled, some of them require it either way. And there are well over 800 schools on that list. I was just hoping for someone to give me better choices so I can narrow it down. I guess I’m looking for university that are ranked anywhere between 100-300 and give good aid. And ofcourse ones that have rolling admissions. I did find a list of universities that are rolling and so that shall help me narrow it down. Anyways, I am looking at safeties mostly. I did come across Luther College. I might apply!

UOregon will give you financial aid? Is that Trinity in Texas?
@Oregon2016 They have an ICSP Scholarship for international students that I applied to which offers up to full tuition. It works to my advantage given all the social work I’ve done since it’s mostly based on all of that.
No, I mean the Trinity College in CT. And I know it’s a far reach but it is test optional now. So I didn’t submit my SAT scores. And their average GPA is about a B+. Which is about close to mine. I might be just about average or above the 25% tile in grades but I do have strong ECs and Trinity College said they are trying to be more holistic in decisions. Anyways, I don’t expect to get in. And I understand I have a higher chance of being rejected than getting accepted. But oh well, I hope I can be lucky.
The list in post #12 culls the best universities from the 800 list, but if you take universities ranked 70+, you have a shot.
Look into Hendrix, St Michael’s, UScranton, Marist, Elizabethtown, Cornell Iowa, Roanoke Guilford, College of Idaho, Susquehanna, College of the Atlantic, … plus USouthern Maine, UMaine Farmington, UMinnesota Duluth, Truman State, UWisconsin-Superior, UMN Morris…
A problem might be deadlines, though. Some are on March 1st, so you’re lucky and got an extra day!
Towson is still accepting applications and internationals can still apply to the Honors College.
