Hey everyone!
I’m new to this forum, technically, although I’ve been viewing religiously for the past several months.
Do I have a chance at JHU???
SAT: 1340 (retaking in Jan- will they count it??)
SATIIs- 730 writing, 740 spanish w/ listening, 640 Bio (yuck!.. took it freshman year…)
GPA: 4.3
Top 2%
ECs: NHS secretary
National Spanish Honor Society
Rocket Team
Peer Counseling
Academic Team Captain
Key Club
Earth Club
Work- 15 hours per week
From CT
Iranian American (does it count as a minority???)

1340 definitely shouldn’t hurt you- the numbers they have on the site are the admitted stats, not matriculating. A LOT of people I know at Hopkins had low 1300s / even high 1200s. Your GPA is great, ECs are fine, and they like people who work. Good luck and don’t worry!

Hmm… I only know a few BMEs… most of them had quite high SATs, but one had less than a 660 M. Of course, the BME program is highly highly competitive, so better scores are going to help.

That’s fortunate. So you’ve probably been to Iran many times before? I’ve never been to Iran…a topic which I wrote about for almost all of my essays. I want to go really bad but b/c of the political situation, my dad won’t go back and thus I can’t. But I have a lot of family there that visits here a few times a year. I really wish I could go to Iran.

My dad goes often (he is building a bunch of apartments and high end housing developments) but I have never been, because of the political troubles, and because, as a teenager, they might hold me “hostage” and force me into the military, as what happens to all iranian male who do not attend an Iranian University.

Even though I am female, I know where you are coming from. I have several male cousins in Iran and they are trying to come the the US so that they do not have to serve in the military after they graduate from college. Where are you from?
