Low score in Maths due to illness.

Hi! I am from India. I would be applying Cornell for ED this year. The thing is, this year in my 12th standard Maths exam,i scored a 58 (out of 100) because i fell ill just 4 days before the exam and eventually had typhoid. However my scores in other subjects are pretty good (Physics-87, Chem-89).
How should I let the college know about this. Also, would it affect my chances. I have scored very well in my previous classes so the college can’t doubt my ability.
9th Class- 9.6 cgpa
10th Class- 9 cgpa
11th Class- 91%
12th Class-80.2 (after including the low Maths score)

Ask your guidance counselor to include the information in their recommendation (assuming GC recs are a consistent part of international apps, I mostly just know domestic)

Agree that you need this info to be part of your app. If there is no counselor who can include this info, get a doctor to write a short note verifying you were treated for typhoid. Submit it as part of the additional info on the application. If your grade are compared to US students, 80%might hurt you, so it needs to be explained

BTW how are my grades for other classes? Are they decent enough. @Lindagaf

You only mention physics and chem, both under 90. IF that is excellent for your school profile, or how you compare to others in your year, then it’s good. If many others are in the 90s, then it really depends on the types of colleges you are applying to. Post a thread in the Chances forum with more details about the colleges you are interested in, along with your grades and test scores, and course rigor.

Don’t you think that College would think that I am just trying to hide my fault if i send the doctor’s application or is it just fine? @Lindagaf

If a doctor verifies that you had typhoid, a very serious illness, no college is going to think you are making excuses. You frankly don’t have a choice, because if you try to explain it yourself, it really will seem as though you are making excuses. You had typhoid, and you need it to be mentioned by a credible person.

^ I agree.

Ok. So should I just send the report, or should I also send an explanatory letter?

A doctor should ideally write a letter, if you have no guidance couselor at schools, and his/her report can be included too.
