After high school I am attending a CC to complete my transfer requirements for UC Davis. A couple of my semesters have a series of D’s and F’s on them but I am definitely retaking those classes for C’s and B’s in order to obtain the needed GPA for a TAG.

My question basically is; how much will those low scores affect my transfer acceptance? I am retaking and improving them, but will the fact that I did get low scores drastically affect my chances at getting accepted as long as I have the required GPA by the time I sign the TAG?
And if so, what should my steps be to secure a spot at UC Davis?

My sister had quite a number of Fs and Ds (her CC GPA was a 2.4), but most of them were for non-transferrable classes, and when she had her UC GPA calculated, she found that it was a 2.8. She still was able to get TAG’d for UC Davis. However, the TAG GPA is being increased to 3.2 for Fall 2012, so make sure your GPA is at 3.2 by the time you apply.

If you’re retaking those classes for a better grade, then they’re going to focus on the better grades, not the bad grades you got prior to retaking them.

sopranokitty: this does help me, but some of the low grades are for transfer classes but I’m retaking them and using an academic renewal as well. After that it should bring me up to a decent GPA then completing all the rest should raise my GPA given that I do well.

sweetlacecharm: this helps me breathe, thank you so much!

it is imperative that you go sit down with a counselor at your school and discuss your situation. i wouldn’t rely on advice from students on a message board for something this important. you need solid/informed advice, not opinions.
