I messed up freshman and sophomore year. I have never gotten a C before high school.
My grades look a little like this(except with numbers instead of letters). I also included my semester grades instead of my final grades because my high school tends to send everything to colleges.
Freshman year:
B-, B-, B-, B+, A-, A+, A+
B-, B-, B-, B+, A+, A+, C-
Sophomore year:
B-, B-, B-, B-, B+, C, C, A,
B-, B+, B+, C+/B-(not sure), B-, A, A, C-
-all due to not paying attention or studying or cheating-
Two of my C’s are in an elective class.
My course load is fairly rigorous, and I go to a competitive high school. I’m going to get 95+ in all my classes next year to make up for it. My rank will probably end up in the top 20-30 percent range by the end of junior year.
AP’s: 10-11 AP exams in total(hoping for 4s and 5s on them all) ACT/SAT: unsure of my score
My teacher recs and counselor recs will also probably be average, since I go to a pretty big school.
I don’t really know where to apply. I’m looking at texas a & m, ut austin, etc. Any recommendations?
First, pay attention in class. Second, don’t cheat! If you get caught cheating in college, professors will commonly drop you from their class with a big fat F. Some schools will put you on academic probation over it.
Third, your grades aren’t terrible. If all else fails and you bomb everything and barely graduate, UTEP is an open enrollment school, so you would have a 100% chance of getting accepted. If you get a decent score on your SAT/ACT, you shouldn’t have any problem getting into Texas State or UTSA. If you bring up your grades somewhat, you can get into Texas Tech or Univ of Houston.
It’s certainly possible to get into UT and A&M, but both schools are going to be a reach. Getting into these schools is only half the battle. The employable majors at UT, like business, go to kids with the highest grades. Texas A&M is first come first serve.
Did you take a dry run of the PSATs yet? If so, how did you do? If you did extraordinarily well, then chances are that you could do very well on the PSAT in the fall, and that’s the one that counts for National Merit. So if I were you, I’d start studying my you know what off for the PSAT - you got anything better to do this summer?
