Lowest admitted to Cornell

Does anyone know if Cornell has admitted a student, without any hooks, with low SATs and low GPA? Consider low to signify SAT score of 1300+/2000 and top 20% of class.

of course they have.

CayugaPlease–

How do you know? I applied Early decision to AEM with similar stats and I am freaking out right now!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :O. I am not a recruit or URM. I’m Asian (Indian) American.

considering there are about 260,000 Cornell grads alive, it is pretty hard to believe that no one have ever been admitted with “low stats.”

If you are interested in your own chances, I will be able to point you towards a more definitive answer in: [Countdown to Dec 8, 2011 5:00 PM in Boston](<a href=“Time since Dec 8, 2011 5:00 pm started in Boston”>Time since Dec 8, 2011 5:00 pm started in Boston)

:)

haha thank you  . Hoping for the best!

According to my school’s naviance, 1 girl was accepted a few years back with a 1230 SAT and 92 W GPA. she is hispanic though.

Did she apply early decision? I am wondering if students with no hooks (sports recruit, minority, etc.) and low stats, as defined above, were admitted under early decision.

Oh, looking at my school’s naviance as well, the lowest for early is 3.6/4.0 UW, 1400/2280 SAT. The lowest for regular is 3.2 and 1240. However, averages for both early and regular are around 3.85 and 1500.

That being said, these are stats from 2006-2011 and the admission standards seem to have risen. Objectively I’m higher than average. Putting subjective things in consideration, who knows? People are rejected with as high or higher test scores and GPA’s than me all the time, at my school and on CC. So I’d say just wait out these last couple days and content yourself with “why should a college (Cornell or otherwise) choose me?” If you can think of a good response, at least you’ll know that you’ve put forth all possible effort, and hopefully some area will “compensate” for any objective shortcomings.

Asian American here without hooks as well, so at least I can empathize a bit. Good luck!

Thank you. These responses are really helping. Big thanks to everyone. I hope it all works out for us!

she applied regular.

the “worst stat” student accepted early decision was a kid with a 1250 SAT but ~99.9 average. probably had a hook or extenuating circumstances that resulted in low sAT

I’m not sure if this is a hook, but the biggest EC I have in applying ED to Cornell is the Cornell University Summer College. My supplement is about this as well.

@bball4life9675 I wrote mine on CUSC as well. A lot of my CUSC got in to Cornell… hoping it helps me out.

@SoccerWolfP…Nice! What program did you take? Also, were they admitted with similar stats as mine?

I took Intro to Political Philosophy with Kramnick.

Yes they were… but they had other hooks.
One was applying to Hotel, got in with similar stats as you. But he was URM and he went to the Hotel summer program. The other friend got into Architecture with below 2000 SAT’s and a 3.3 GPA. But his artwork was amazing and I’m sure the art teacher for his CUSC course wrote him a great rec.

So my chances are not as low as I consider them to be? There is hope, right?

There’s always hope man.

Does everyone here trust Naviance? I mean, it’s good for occasional reference, but it’s bad when one solely uses and depends on it for college statistics. I’m getting frustrated looking at my own school’s Naviance cause everyone who has gotten accepted in my school has exceptional scores/GPA. But I’ve been through a unique circumstance so hopefully that is something that will make me stand out. Agh still. This waiting process is killing me lollll.

Good luck to all! I’m praying for everyone :)

Same here  School on thursday is going to be a nightmare. I won’t be able to focus at all on anything. And I have an ap chem quiz, ap calc test, and academic league meet… -_-.

i am a current aem freshman and i got in with an 89 average (def near the bottom of my school). my school is highly ranked and doesn’t use class rank, however.

also dont think about 2400 scale, think 1600 scale. they superscore and don’t care – i saw my record in the aem office and it simply said CR - #, M - #
