Loyola Honors Essay

Havelock Ellis wrote “All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding
on.” Tell us about yourself in terms of something you’ve learned to let go of and something you’ve learned to hold on to. Any ideas???

This is definitely a personal prompt that can only be answered based on your own experiences.

From your sn… Is your name Faith, or are you just religious? Because if you’re religious, that might be a way to go (something to hold on to).

Otherwise, my bet is that the only person on CC who can help you is you. If you’re willing to share some of your life experiences, I’m sure you can get some direction from somebody. If not, you’re going to have to reflect on your life and ask yourself: What have I loved and lost/quit/left? What do I cling to?

Ya I figured that I should do that but I can’t think of anything I have let go or held on to. I’m more of an absract thinker, but abstract comcepts are too typical for this kind of question.
How about clothes? Each article of clothing that I have holds a memory. Some memories I want to hold on to and some that I want to let go of. I can bring the concept of buying new clothes to make more memories. I can also tie into growing up. I don’t know if that idea is too cliche…?

P.S. my name is Faith.

Actually I think that could make for a very unique essay. It’s something I doubt others think of, and it also allows you to write about more than just one or two “memories.” Personally, I wouldn’t say that to be cliche at all… I’d go the other way and call it original.

Just make sure if you choose to write it that way that you always have the memories at the forefront of your focus, even when discussing clothes.

This is getting to be a really hard essay to write.
