LSA BME vs CoE BME

Originally I applied to LSA because I didn’t know what I wanted to major in, but these past few weeks, I’ve been thinking about Biomedical Engineering and so I looked at transfer requirements from LSA to CoE, and don’t think Id be able to transfer until at least sophomore year. But during campus day today, I noticed a possible major is Biomedical Engineering. Anyone know the difference between the 2? Would majoring in Biomedical Engineering in LSA be similar to Biomedical Engineering in CoE?

I have never heard there is a BME in LSA, but there is a join program in Cell & Molecular Biology and Biomedical Engineering between LSA and CoE. Basically, it is a 5 year program that include a BSc in CMB and a MS in BME. You may consider that if you are interested in it. For BME, you need to have a master degree to get a job anyway.

There’s no BME in LSA. To my knowledge, the only major that both CoE and LSA offer is Computer Science. You’re either thinking of what billcsho just explained, or you just have something mixed up.

@billcsho would the bme degree from the joint degree be similar to the degree from coe? as in, would it also take 5 years to receive a masters from coe?

@entenduintransit yea it was the joint degree program.

Basically you will get a BSc in CMB and MS in BME. The MS part should be equivalent to the one in CoE as it is actually offered by CoE, however, it may be less engineering but more on the application. In CoE, one may also get a BSE and a master degree in 5 years.
