For many years, the grammar police have cringed when hearing the name of LSU football coach Les Miles who was fired over the weekend. In a press release, LSU explained the dismissal in terms of its “commitment to excellence.” Whereas LSU football used to have one Les, it will now have one fewer. http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2016/09/les_miles_dismissal_ends_up-an.html
Some girls on D’s cross country team would love to have him as their new coach!
I am not understanding this thread. Grammar police? Grammatically incorrect name? I don’t understand.
Oh, because it should be fewer miles instead of less miles?
Sheesh - having this as a thread in this forum just seems totally random… I guess I don’t have the “right” sense of humor?
I appreciate the humor! The improper use of “less” versus “fewer” is one my pet peeves. I hear national ad campaigns using “less” instead of “fewer” and cannot believe professionals get paid to write those ads!
thshadow - read Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss to understand.
