LSU Stamps/Presidental Scholarship Questions

Hey all, I’ve been selected to interview for the STAMPS/Presidential scholarship early next month at LSU. I’ve tried asking around elsewhere for guidance regarding the questions asked but nobody has answered…! Does anyone here know generally what questions are asked, what I should wear, etc.? Thanks!

Wow - congrats to you.

You might get some tidbits here - such as understanding the mission and highlight areas.

I’d say this:

Dress professionally - that doesn’t mean tie or dress but at least a pressed shirt - and yes a sport coat is nice.

Look in your interviewers eyes.

I had my student who was in a similar interview prepare for a few scenarios from their background using the STAR Methodology. Situation, Task, Action, Result.

If you focus on 3 or 4 accomplishments, you can pivot them to most any question asked -

Tell me about a time when you were on a team where no one wanted to lead or take charge

Tell me about a time you struggled in class and how did you get past it?

When you answer, it’s ok to repeat the question back. A time I struggled in class was ………..

Be confident, have fun, and ask a few questions about their background - people like to talk about themselves. You can ask about programming / events through STAMPS that elevated experiences of students (if not listed online) and can even ask a light question such as - what’s your favorite place to eat on campus or what’s your favorite spot to relax and get some sunshine?

Best of luck.

Congrats on getting the interview at LSU for the STAMPS/Presidential scholarship.

Generally, they don’t ask anything technical. It’s more about you as a person. Expect questions like why you chose LSU, your academic goals, leadership experiences, community involvement, and what you plan to contribute to campus. They may also ask about challenges you’ve faced and how you handled them.

For attire, go with business casual at minimum. A button-down shirt with dress pants or a simple formal outfit is usually safe. You don’t need a full suit unless you want to be extra formal, but you should look neat and professional.

Most importantly, be ready to clearly explain your goals, achievements, and why you deserve the scholarship in a confident but natural way.
