LUC Freshman Hoping to Transfer to NYU Stern or Similar Schools (Chance me and School Choosing)

Hi guys,

I have been lurking around this website for a long long long time. First thing I have to say is this site is gold, it’s like a Bloomberg terminal of college without paying $24000 a year.

Anyway, I am currently a freshman at Loyola University Chicago looking to transfer. I originally came here because I was recruited for golf, but due to a few factors, I got out of the golf team and had a pretty big shift in my concentration. Now I am hoping to transfer to a better school, namely NYU.

During secondary school (you guessed it, Canadian), I concentrated mainly on golf and got pretty good at it, but everything else was lacking, so I have a mediocre secondary school record. But since I shifted my concentration in college, my current college transcript is looking good so far. Here are my stats, feel free to comment on my chance of getting into Stern!

High School:
SAT 1990 - CR 620 Math 760 Writing 610 (actually planning to take ACT in a month)
High School GPA 3.3 (no idea if it was weighted or not, EH!)
1 AP - Calculus
Participated in school lightly: no significant leading role but lots of participation
Athletic: won a highest level junior tournament in China and got exemption to play in Volvo China Open- a European Tour (Euro PGA) Event

College:
GPA: first semester 3.83, current semester 3.95. two semester total of 30 credits taken.
first semester DIV I athlete
actively participating in two investment clubs, one of which manages a portfolio of $850,000

I know it’s probably not healthy to concentrate on only one school but honestly I have found no other school as attractive as NYU Stern. I am also applying to Babson and U of Michigan (possible Fordham, if it becomes attractive to me suddenly). But if I get into Stern it would be a no brainer choice for me. I can be in NYC, have access to all the business resources and get to play collegiate golf again (except it will be DIV III rather than DIV I, but it doesn’t matter, going there for the school quality). If I get denied and no other schools seemed appeal to me, staying at Loyola would be fine with me, since it is a lot cheaper and I have next year to apply again.

Again, feel free to comment on my chance of getting into NYU Stern (STERN!!! yea…) and your thoughts on other choices other than NYU.

P.S. wow you read to the end?!?! bravo to you my friend
