Great choice!

That’s really sweet. DH won’t wear a watch. And he is constantly asking me what time it is.

Excellent decision to allow them to choose. You won’t regret it.

Moot point by now, but the world of difference was between a watch in the price range of a Tag Heuer and the ones listed as Patek, Rolex, and similarly very expensive ones.

In so many words, I thought it was pretty clear I was talking about the differences the price range.

Great, PG! I hope you come back to share the final selections.

As I said early on, I love my Omega and wear it every day. I hope the twins will love theirs as well.

PG, I think you & your H made a great decision to let your kids come and choose among the finalist watches! That is very sweet and I’m sure they’ll treasure what they receive. You & your H are very thoughtful and generous to give your kids’ these gifts.

Would love to see the final choices as well.

Omega is a great choice, and making the final decision will be a fun and memorable time for everyone. I gave my H an Omega many years ago - gold bezel with a lizard strap - very, very thin and quite elegant looking. He says it’s his “wedding watch” - it’s the only watch he’ll wear to a wedding - thinks it brings good luck to the couple.

PG - I hope your newly minted grads will enjoy picking out their watches. I love the idea and think you came up with a wonderful solution!! What odd twists in this thread. Gotta love cc! We would love to do something similar for S2 when he graduates in 2015. When DH got a major promotion in '98 I got him a Breitling he had been eyeing for some time. He still loves it (one of the rare things he’s every ‘wanted’). I think Bay had asked about Breitling a few pages ago. DH’s is one of the more understated ones, not so many things on the dial.

To me a metal band for wrist watch seems more practical than leather straps. Lizard is dressy and maybe not best for an active, athletic type person. My favorite strap is mustard colored $100 bill currency strap!

^^^^I think that leather bands look very smart, but I always had trouble getting them fastened. DH bought me an Ebel which had a snap clasp vs. the stick in the hole way of securing them (not a good description, but the word for it escapes me). It was much easier to put on quickly, and the watch in question has big numbers, which are helpful for my middle aged eyes :o

Even having a watch won’t guarantee they won’t ask others the time.

Had that happen a few times to which I retorted, “You have a watch, use it!”

^These are the same guys who will drive car in circles for a half hour lost but won’t stop to get directions because “I know where I’m going and how to get there!”

Awesome! Have fun.

Omega was never on my radar before, but I looked at few yesterday when we were out getting the last J.Crew fillers for the final college packing, and my D and I agree they are great!

21 is a great year.

We got my oldest a set of Baccarat champagne flutes for her 21st. It’s the “last” big birthday, imho.

I funded my Ds’ 21st birthday parties for their gifts. Where they went to college, renting out a portion of a bar/restaurant and inviting lots of friends was the thing to do for 21, and that is what they wanted.

PG - in post 308 I mention graduation. That should obviously refer to birthday. I have graduation on the brain for another one of my kids…trying to appease the GPs, always a loosing proposition. My apologies.

I am looking for a nice watch as well because I don’t have a cell phone. OP, thanks for starting this thread!

A bit OT…but… while on the way to the dog food/toilet paper/frozen blueberries at our local Costco I stumbled upon a Bedat watch I absolutely love…any of you watch aficionado’s have an opinion on this brand?

I haven’t actually tried it on and there is a good chance it will not work on my freakishly tiny wrists…but dang the thing is nice. I’m not at all familiar with the brand…

Because of this thread, last time my husband and I were at Costco we walked over and looked at the watch display for the first time. There is something really funny about these mega expensive watches there only so many aisles away from the aforementioned items…

Deborah: It is weird. But in searching for the same watch on the vast wonderful world of the internet it seems that it is a minimum of $750 to 1K + more than Costco. So, I’m willing to overlook the surrounding organic gluten free chips, HP printer ink and the seasonal item such as Brita water filters, dorm fridges and Ugg’s. But then again…I’m not the type to pay for ambiance :)

This may be a stupid question–but how do you know that the name brand Costco watch you buy is really the same model that the local jeweler sells for much more? I have a close friend whose husband works for a company that sells its product to Wal-mart; the product that her husband’s company sells to Wal-mart looks very much like the product that one could buy in a department store, but it’s not the same. According to my friend, it’s not the same quality because it’s manufactured for much less. Can that be the same with watches? How would one know?
