If I say that I have visited the college even though I did not…(in my essay)
would they find out?

I doubt they will. You can always say that you visited their college on your own time and did not go on any tours.

But, why risk things by lying? And most schools – particularly state schools like University of Michigan, where it seems that you’re applying to – don’t consider demonstrated interest anyway.

Michigan would care far more about your stats, your state of residence, and the date that you applied than whether or not you visited them. Indeed, Michigan won’t care at all whether you visited them.

I also don’t think that Ivies care about demonstrated interest.

Yeah - the ivies don’t care about demonstrated interest. Yale says it straight up on their website that they couldn’t care less if you’ve visited the campus once a month (they actually say 3 times, but w/e).

^ Penn DOES care if you demonstrate interest.

Careful there, Penn most DEFINITELY cares about demonstrated interest.

Some colleges, not sure which ones exactly, actually check which applicants have actually visited the campus or not.
