Lyon Hall

I hear everyone naming Balch as tha women’s dorm, but in the Cornell website is Lyon Hall. Is there any difference?

Balch is the female-only hall on North where the freshmen live. Lyon Hall is on West Campus where upperclassmen live.

Are they any good? I just want to know if they are any different from the other upper level living halls.

It is one of the Gothics. It has a lot of history, and depending on what floor you are living on, it’s considered to be a pretty prestigious address on campus. One of the secret societies meets on the top floor.

I don’t know about Lyon (I didn’t even know there was an all-girls dorm on West).

You will get varying opinions on Balch; some girls like it, some don’t. I personally like it. I think the Balch girls are really spoiled by the amount of programing in the dorm (for example, they’re always having get togethers and parties), how quiet and tranquil of a place it is, and how clean it is. The main downside is the fact there are no boys. That can hurt your social life a bit. It is somewhat inconvenient for the guys. There’s like only one or two guy bathrooms in the whole place. Once I got lost looking for the bathroom and got kicked out by an RA for not having an escort (didn’t realize I needed my gf to hold my hand all the way to the bathroom). The triples make it tough to have private time but at least you get your own sink.

Edit: Sorry, I didn’t understand what you meant by “upper-level.” Are you referring to dorms for upperclassmen or are you trying to compare with “upper-tier” freshmen dorms like Mews or Court?

I meant upperclassmen
