M.Arch I Architecture Schools

One of my kids is planning on applying to grad. schools this Fall but selecting schools is really difficult.

Looking through the websites of many top graduate programs in architecture is a pretty dispiriting endeavor. Much of the student work highlighted is fantastical, as if designed for aliens on another planet. Stretched fabrics, honeycombed structures…very little resemblance to our actual environment. It seems as if computer game environments have had a strong influence on design aethetics.

I was hoping to get suggestions for perhaps more earth-bound/humanistic programs? I’m not talking classical architecture at all…I miss seeing the human touch in the students work.

If you are interested in a school which has a lot of connections to practice in an architectural mecca then The Illinois Tech program might be a good fit.

Actually, IIT is on my daughter’s “Definite” list of schools!
