it was ed this year

so what does this finally amount to then…
likely?
meh-everyone-gets-it?
don’t-worry-we-are-still-checking-you-out??

Hmm thats interesting they sent Mike a real letter, and everyone else got a email, remeber it doesn’t really cost anything to send a mass email

k, i’ve made my decision…why the heck bother…we’ll find out in another 3 weeks anyways…

by the way…to the comment about being surprised about 4 people on CC getting in…its not a surprise, really…about 10 or more of the ED huntsman people have been on this site…insaneness!

cc is definitely not representative of hte general applicant pool…so maybe its good, maybe not…damn, they should just not send it…and we wouldnt be in this much suspense!! lol :P

i got a letter… but idon’t think it’s a likely… only 50 are admitted each year right?? and 30 are already in ed? so 20 left?

boooooooh 30 ed!

Well I have some good news sort of, but I don’t want anyone (including myself!) to get their hopes up. I searched on the old forums for M&T email, and sure enough, a year ago some kids had gotten the same email and were having the same discussion about it. They decided, as it seems we have, that it wasn’t a likely letter.

Then there is a thread with m/t decisions, where they asked people to post if they got into m/t, and also if they got the email. Every kid who got in got the email, and none of the kids who didn’t get in got it.

There definitely could have been people who got the email, didn’t get in, and didn’t post; or vice versa with an acceptance and no email. But based on what I saw from last year, I’m feeling pretty good about this email.

Just my $.02

thanks mooses, thats a pretty well-supported 2 cents lol…hope you’re right!

btw…do you have the links to those threads on the old forums

oh don’t tell me that, i don’t even wanna believe you

no e-mail…ED deferee too

a-bomb; i can’t get it to give me the links for some reason, but heres how to see the 2 threads. Go to http://www.collegeconfidential.com/discus/
Click on message search. Search in Ivy League Schools for “M&T email” (don’t use the quotation marks).
I assume it’ll give you the same results I got, in which case thread #2, entitled “Jerome Fisher Decisions” is the thread where people said if they got accepted/got the email. Thread #5, entitled “Jerome Fisher Candidates!” is the original thread discussing the email.

Good luck searching.

thanks mooses =)
btw, does anyone here know what a likely letter normally says (i’ve never seen one)? does it blatantly say “you are in” OR “you are a strong likely candidate”, or is it normally disguised like this M&T one?

They pretty much say “You are a exceptionally strong candidate… you are likely to get an acceptance come April… we have a spot waiting for you… blah blah blah”.

Check out the Dartmouth board for some examples. Quite a few of them have received likely letters.

thanks ath

Here is the darmouth likely letter:

Dear ______

Greetings from Dartmouth. I hope your senior year is going well and that you are enjoying your courses and activities.

My purpose in writing is very simple–we have reviewed your application and think you are an outstanding prospect for Dartmouth. I recently read your folder and was exceedingly impressed with your academic accomplishments and intellectual potential. There is no question that when we mail our final decisions in April, you will be offered admission to the college.

I see no reason to delay letting you know about the status of your application, and I hope this early indication will “ease your mind” a bit. The college admissions process is unnecessarily long and anxious for many students. So, relax, get back to that book you meant to read, and use this time to reflect on your plans and goals for the next phase of your education.

If you have any questions about Dartmouth, please let me know. In the meantime, best wishes for the remainder of your high school career.

Sincerely,

Karl M. Furstenberg
Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid

Looking at this one…the m&t one is weak and meek lol!!!

i don’t think it’s an likely letter… lol…

i think they just sent it to as many ppl as possible… guys, seriously… it cannot be a likely letter or any letter that distinguishes the best applicants… or they would have at least mailed it instead of using email… and if they’re only sending 20 out, the guy can just sign it by hand, instead of using a computerized signiture.

out of the MT applicants on this board, just wondering, how many of you picked wharton as your second choice and how many pickes SEAS?

i picked SEAS
