M usic from the 70's

Haystack–yes. And I read an interview fairly recently with Michael Stipe where he said that sound, much more than the Beatles, influenced REM.

Anyone else remember Little River Band?

Jethro Tull, Santana…love those groups.

I listen to '70’s music all of the time (Sirius radio). On Friday’s AM commute I heard “Dancing Queen” (Abba), “Mighty Love” (Spinners) and “I Saw the Light in Your Eyes” (Todd Rundgren. What luck - three of my favorites!

I loved the Spinners, The Eagles, Boz Scaggs, Styx, Steely Dan, Boston, Carole King, Carly Simon, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Jimmy Buffett, Blondie and many others. I still do.

I saw REO Speedwagon in concert - in my high school gym.

thumper, yes, Blood Sweat and Tears!!
Brass gets me every time…I guess having two tuba players in the family
has something to do with it.

“Anyone remember the Alessi Brothers?”…

Oh yes…for many, many reasons (some of which I cannot post on the Internet…)

They are still around, Jym, in the New York area (if my memory serves me correctly they were based on Long Island?)

Kenny Loggins is still great in concert, as is Todd Rundgren (have tix to see him coming up!)

I listened to alot of music from these artists

The Who
War
J. Geils

Hooker n Heat was a favorite album of mine
Allman Brothers Brothers and Sisters got a ton of play too

Mccartney… wings over America! ( Band on the Run)
Eddie Money ( Mahoney) - two tickets to paradise etc!
Bee Gees----Night Fever
Bill Joel— Just the way you are
Clapton—Layla, I Shot The Sheriff
( much better with Creem)
Allman Bros ( early 70’ s) One Way Out, In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed, Whipping Post!
Grand Funk Railroad-- Locomotion, Closer to home, Bad time to be in Love.
Donna Sumer: Last Dance
Sultan of Swing

Who’s Next

Musicmom- followed by mathmom from the first page- Nektar was a prog band from Germany. They had great album covers.

I sort of feel the same way about James Taylor. I had a roommate who ruined Sweet Baby James for me.

@Nouve55, your list made me laugh, I think you just about named every single one of my least favorite songs!

My kids have broadened my tastes a lot, especially the younger one. Thanks to them I learned about Wilco, The Foo Fighters, Apocalypitica (Finnish metal on cellos), Nightwish (Finnish metal with an operatic lead singer) and Northern Kings (Four Finns who play in other bands too), The Rasmus, Volbeat (metal with a bit of Johnny Cash influence), Coldplay. My sister-in-law has got me listening to a lot of alt-country - The New Heathens, Old Crow Medicine Show among others. My younger son also periodically tries to get us to appreciate rap music. I do get what’s great about some it, but I still don’t enjoy listening to most of it.

I was a finalist in the karaoke contest on my recent cruise, singing Different Drum (Linda Rondstadt).

@ mathmom! Lol I knew all would hate them! It’s really deep down rock of the 70’s which took a back seat to disco! Actually most of the 70’s music is inferior to the preceding ( 60’s) and subsequent (80’s… NOT 90’s or later) decade !!! John Lennon his final
Interview with Penthouse called the 70’s boring ! And musically it certainly was!!!

I loved 70s music! Kiss hasn’t been mentioned (I don’t think) nor has Jim Croce.

What about Elton John? Wasn’t Your Song released in 1970?

I must have experienced a much different 70’s than you.

“What about Elton John? Wasn’t Your Song released in 1970?”

I’m pretty sure it was. First concert I ever went to was EJ - 1970 when I was in 9th grade. They only opened up half the Syracuse War Memorial for it. He did handstands on the piano while he played.

Nouve–you can join me and a few others here in prefering 60s and 80s, though I like a lot of more recent stuff (basically, the strand of alternative which has continued throughout the past decades.)

Mathmom–I like alt.country, too.

Bon Scott anyone?

There are great musicians in every decade. I think the music we listened to from the time we started to become independent from our parents and all throught our college years has a different feel than the stuff I like now.

AC/DC … yes!!

"I loved 70s music! Kiss hasn’t been mentioned (I don’t think) nor has Jim Croce. "

H is on a Kiss album cover … and I was fortunate to have seen Jim Croce in concert.
