Do any current Exeter students on this board use a Mac computer? The Exeter IT FAQ’s say that either Mac or Windows machines are compatible, but that the recommend Windows machines for optimum performance.

Performance wise what will I sacrifice if I bring a Macbook? Also, do you have to use Windows on your Mac to access your e mail?

I have a mac and I’m going to Exeter next year… I’d like to know too. I’m not giving up my mac for “optimum performance”. I doubt you need a PC to access your email.

Macs are fine… Just make sure you have Microsoft word (with power point)… Sometimes lion links gets overwhelemd during course registration so I just use a school computer in the library… Also be sure to bring a memory stick thing.

macbooks are fine~ [if not better than PCs… :D]
you don’t need microsoft word, just a substitute… i never needed word the whole year, although powerpoint might be needed for some teachers… but again, substitues are available. [b/c office is expensive for such petty thing… also slows down the computer a lot.]

email’s the same on a mac

exeter IT also says mac’s need virus software too… but… cmon. ^.^

mac’s are getting a lot more popular too, and mac’s connect to each other incredibly… i think there were 6 or 7 macs in the dorm last year out of 45 kids, 4 were macbooks. [lotta video chatting lol]
