Mac vs PC for Business Majors

I am planning on majoring in Economics at either UNC-Chapel Hill or NC State and soon I will be buying my lap top for college.

What are the advantages disadvantages for Mac and PC?
Mostly I am concerned about not being able to do what I need on Mac.

Anybody in school with these computers please respond!

PC, no question. Macs are nothing more than pretty little toys. You can’t run any real programs on them without dealing with crash after crash.

You can still run Windows natively on a mac - if you choose to go the apple route.

PC, no contest

Excel.

You better buy the SONY VAIO. For 800-1000$ you can get a laptop more powerful than Mac and with a battery life for up to 15 hours (cost additional 50$) They also offer a student discount for 10% of the total price. Mac with a 15 inch screen and a lower battery life will cost you around 1500-1600$. Another great laptop is ASUS. Here take a look–it is stunning, and I think it was just released.

And here is the comparison with the Apple’s Mac Air:

Personally, I recently bought the ASUS’s Bamboo edition as a present to my mom.

I own a Mac laptop for like 3-4 years now. I would say use a PC, unless you want to dual boot windows on your mac.

Yeah im leaning towards PC
thanks for the imput

What are the very best laptops to buy then? Also, I love Apple products. Is it really an inconvenience to have a macbook pro instead of a high end pc?

Some of the pros of having a Mac are:

1) Cool design
2) Good battery life compared to most of the laptops
3) It is unlikely that you will get many viruses compared to Windows OS
4) Macintosh OS has less crushes than Windows. Ex: most of the DJs use Macs because they don’t want to lose their job in case if Windows crushes or lags
5) I guess that is it.

The main Cons:

  1. The price doesn’t match the quality. For the same price you can buy a super duper gaming laptop like MSI or Alienware which are more powerful than many desktop PCs. If you don’t play games, then you can still buy professional laptops with 16-32 GBs of RAM, Quad Core/i7 processor, and a 2 GB video card (Nvidia/ATI Radeon) which will allow you to basically run any program for another 10 years, and do it on multiple screens
In addition, you can add the SSD Winchester, and it will still be cheaper than a Mac. For those who don’t know the difference between HDD and SSD (almost all have HDD) take a look:

2) You will have to use/buy programs specifically made for Mac which is another way of Apple to drain money from consumers, think of their ITunes.

As for me, these cons outweigh the pros that Mac has.
