I have a budget of $2000 for a college computer and I am considering the $1500 MacBook Pro 13" and the 13" MacBook Pro retina.
Which one is faster and which one is ultimately better? The apple people told me even though the retina has a weaker processor on paper, it is actually faster than the pro because of a solid state drive?
A majority of kids in D’s school have the non-retina MacBook Pro 13" and they are more than content. For college I think the $1500 machine will serve your needs well enough. Why don’t you take the $500 that you’ll save and get yourself an iPad or iPad mini? Both have rear-facing, good resolution still cameras and video cameras and the newer iPad has a recording/transcribing feature. Or maybe you could use the excess to buy new software?
The retinal display might be a nifty thing if you need to or want to watch a lot of video content, but I can’t see needing it for writing papers, taking notes, using Excel, making PowerPoint displays or messing around on the Internet, at least for normal college usage.
Basically, I am getting it as a gifts from my dads best friend so money isn’t an object. He said choose any one but I want to keep it under $2000. So between the two, which is better? I can’t ask him for an ipad as well haha.
