Macbooks for college?

I am going to college as a philosophy major and will be double major that with economics. I am going to be getting a laptop, and have been considering macbooks. Are those good for college students? Also will I be carrying it around a lot or just will i just have it sit on my desk most of the time?

I have my macbook with me every day. It’s very useful and works tremendously well.

Depends on the student. My kids don’t care to carry around a computer and take notes the old fashioned way.

There is no one type of college student, so I can’t answer your first question. I can only say that MacBooks are quite popular among college students.

For the second question, I second what OperaDad said. It really does depend on the student. I never take my laptop to class as I find that pencil & paper is better for taking notes. Moreover, I’ve noticed that most students who take their laptops to class don’t use them for note-taking. They’re more likely to use them for Facebook.

Even though my laptop usually just sits on my desk, there have been times when I am grateful that I do have a laptop. For example, the in-class computer crapped out on the day of my British Literature presentation. Luckily, I had my laptop with me as a precaution and was able to hook it up to the projector.
